The Stone Bridge
| The Stone Bridge was once one of Florida's favorite spots for staging group pictures. Schools, Garden Clubs, families, friends, lovers and parties came from all over to frame a moment in the famous setting. When the remains of the original McKee Jungle Gardens parcel was repurchased by The Indian River Land Trust, the Bridge and lily ponds had become lost and forgotten in the overgrowth. Volunteers one day unearthed them during a clean-up project, and there was great excitement over the discovery, particularly when summer rains in 1998 triggered a growth flush from some tenacious lilies once again exposed to light in the old pond basin. | |
