Bananas and gingers are popular in the tropical landscape for their broad leaves, spectacular flowers, and lush appearance. Apart from many varieties of edible bananas which are grown as dooryard fruit, variegated and red-leaved varieties are used in plantings for their ornamental effects. Other popular landscape plants in this group include assorted heliconias, shell ginger and torch ginger, white bird-of-paradise, bird-of-paradise, and the traveler's tree.
